 Facts & Information

Reduce Your Utility Bill:

Check faucets for dripping water. Fix a leaky faucet promptly.  Be sure to check under sinks for moisture or leaks on a consistent basis.  You save 7 gallons a day by fixing a leaky faucet right away.

The Ameican Water Works Assciation (AWWA) estimates that toilets use the most water ndoors at a average of 20 gallons pr person per day.  That adds up to 7,200 gallons per person per year.  New technologies have greatly improved the peformance of low-flush toilets (1.6 gallons per flush),and installing one can save 4,320 gallons a year per person.

The second largest user of water inside a home is the clothes washer, using 30 to 40 gallos of water per load.  When it is time to replace your washing machine, consider a low-water use clothes washer.  Remember to set your wash load appropriately to insure water conservation.

Is your home energy efficient - Save with a tax credit:

The government is encouraging everyone to make their homes more energy efficient.  Through the Energy Poliy Act of 2005, you may obtain a specal limited time Federal Income Tax credit of up to $500 if you upgrade to qualifying high-efficiency equipment on your Water heater, Furnace or Hot Water Boiler Sytem.

The IRS is still developing exact rules, but as of now, you must install equipment in your principal residence to qualify.  Unlike a deduction, which only reduces the amount of income subject to tax, a tax credit directly reduces the tax itself.  Seek professional advice from a tax consultant to see how the tax credit applies to you.
